Advanced mass Spectrometry

Mass spectrometry: a tool for the determination of thermochemical quantities and reaction mechanisms

A triple quadrupole mass spectrometer has been specially modified to perform successive ion-molecule reactions in the gas phase, through the introduction of neutral and volatile molecules.

For recent exemple see : Nature of Reactive Mn–Oxygen Complexes in the Catalytic Oxidative Coupling of Aryllithiums: A Combined Mass Spectrometric and Theoretical Approach ACS Catal. 2025, 15, 9, 7458–7469

The collision cell allows dissociations resolved in energies to be performed, thus obtaining thermochemical data such as bond dissociation energies.

For recent exemple see : Understanding Gold-Alkyne Activation from Bond Dissociation Energies of Gold-Alkyne Complexes. Eur. J. Org. Chem. 2024, e202400340. https://doi.org/10.1002/ejoc.202400340.

These studies are carried out in close collaboration with theoretical experts within the team, fostering a strong experiement–theory interplay, and through national collaborations that enhance our mechanistic understanding and methodological development.
