Terminal Olefins from Aldehydes through Enol Triflate Reduction.

The transformation of aldehydes into terminal olefins through redn. of the corresponding enol triflates is described. The method is effective with both linear and $\alpha$-branched aldehydes. Thus, PhCHMeCHO reacted with (F3CCO)2O in ClCH2CH2Cl contg. 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylpyridine at 70° for one hour to give a crude enol triflate which was directly treated with HCO2H in DMF contg. Pd(OAc)2(PPh3)2 and Bu3N to give 65{%} PhC(Me):CH2. [on SciFinder(R)]
