Synthesis, spectroscopic characterizations, cyclic voltammetry investigation and molecular structure of the di-$μ$-cyanato-N-bis($μ$-1,4,7,10,13,16-hexaoxacyclooctadecane)bis(5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrinato)dimagnesiumdipotassium complex.

A new cryst. material of a Mg(II)-porphyrin dimer complex was prepd. and characterized by single crystal x-ray diffraction. The mol. structure consists of two (10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrinato)magnesium(II) moieties where each cyanate-N coordinated to a Mg(II) cation is also linked via the cyanato O atom to the K atom of a [K(18-crown-6)]+ counterion. The K atoms of these two counterion are coordinated to an O atom of the 18-crown-6 mol of the 2nd [K(18-crown-6)]+ counterion leading to a sandwich type structure made by two [Mg(Porph)(NCO)]- anion complexes and a dimer made by two [K(18-crown-6)]+ counterions. The title compd. crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P21/n; a 11.568(2), b 19.507(4), c 22.647(5) {\AA}, $\beta$ 102.82(3)° and Z = 4. The supramol. architecture includes weak C-H...$π$ intermol. interactions. This Mg-porphyrin dimer species was also characterized by UV-visible, IR and fluorescence spectroscopy and a cyclic voltammetry study was also carried out on this species. [on SciFinder(R)]
