Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes Noncovalently Functionalized by Ruthenium(II) Complex Tagged with Pyrene: Electrochemical and Electrogenerated Chemiluminescence Properties.
The SWCNTs were functionalized non-covalently with a new tri(bipyridyl)ruthenium(II) deriv. bearing two pyrene groups though $π$-$π$ stacking interactions that preserve the pristine electronic structure of carbon nanotubes. Thanks to the high cond. and high surface area of SWCNTs the electrogenerated poly(oligopyrene) deriv. exhibits enhanced electrochem. behavior with fast electron transfer and highly reversible process for ruthenium redox couple. The obtained composite was highly luminescent and is an attractive material for solid state ECL both in org. and aq. solns. [on SciFinder(R)]
