Preparation of functionalized hydrogels and their applications as biosensors, pharmaceutical carriers, and bioreactors.
Functionalized hydrogels comprise a hydrogel backbone selected from carrageenan, chitosan, hyaluronic acid, cellulose, and alginate polymer and at least one polymerizable moiety selected from thiophene, aniline, and pyrrole. Hydrogels functionalized with a polymerizable moiety in the form of films and gels can be used as biosensors, pharmaceutical carriers, and bioreactors with a second element selected from cells, proteins, DNA, or other mols. Thus, N-(3-aminopropyl)pyrrole was reacted with sodium alginate (Protanal LF 10/60) in the presence of N-hydroxysulfosuccinimide and 1-ethyl-3-dimethylaminopropyl-3-ethylcarbodiimide to receive the pyrrole modified alginate.
