Formation of Polymeric [\Ru0(bpy)(CO)2\}n] Films by Electrochemical Reduction of [Ru(bpy)2(CO)2](PF6)2: Its Implication in CO2 Electrocatalytic Reduction.}

The bi-electron redn. of cis-[Ru(bpy)2(CO)2](PF6)2 leads to the formation of films of polymeric complex [{\{}Ru0(bpy)(CO)2{\}}n] in acetonitrile under argon. Although in CO2-satd. solns., the hydrido [Ru(bpy)2(CO)H]+ complex formation competes with that of the film, the later appears as the main catalyst species for the almost quant. and selective redn. of CO2 to CO. [on SciFinder(R)]
