Electrochemical synthesis of cyclo[8]pyrrole.
Calix[8]pyrrole I is prepd. in 68{%} yield by oxidative cyclocondensation of 3,3',4,4'-tetraethyl-2,2'-bipyrrole in an electrochem. cell. The radical cation of I is generated in soln. and characterized from its UV/visible absorption spectrum. The crystal structure of I.bul.H2SO4.bul.2CH2Cl2 is detd. by X-ray crystallog.
