Alternating electro-copolymerization of zinc-$\beta$-octaethylporphyrin with a flexible bipyridinium.
A porphyrin copolymer was obtained upon submitting a mixt. of Zn-$\beta$-octaethylporphyrin (OEP) and 1,1''-(1,3-propanediyl)bis-4,4'-bipyridinium to an electropolymn. procedure. The polymn. process is based on a nucleophilic attack of the pyridyl N atoms at the meso positions of the electrogenerated dication porphyrins. The resulting film was characterized by UV-visible absorption spectroscopy and at. force microscopy. The redox properties of the film were thoroughly studied by electrochem. and spectroelectrochem. techniques. The collected exptl. data support the existence of interactions between the porphyrin and viologen fragments within the films. [on SciFinder(R)]
